The design process for this project primarily focused on creating a distinct identity from previous iterations of the brand system. After reviewing the previous years, we established the theming had largely been around a more vintage aesthetic with texture, less saturated colors, and cut out style graphics. In order to continue this tradition of a vintage aesthetic while updating it to better fit the interests of our audience. The audience for Grids largely consists of current design students, who are mostly gen z this year. We established a concept styled around the vapor wave aesthetic that has been popularized with modern internet users such as the current and incoming design students. This aesthetic is based on early 3d rendering visuals in the 90s which is increasingly becoming a popular vintage aesthetic for younger gen z students who largely didn’t grow up in that period. With this concept chosen, a palette of neon blue and magenta was established as the main brand colors which is common in vaporwave because of their vibrance and high contrast on a black background. Secondary colors were established based on the context with the most prominent example being the color theming of different club event types.
