The objective of this project was to design a limited color brochure for the artist Erik Johansson. The Brochure's audience was the general public and needed to serve as an introduction to him and his work. My role was to research and select pieces to include and write copy as well as finding supporting quotes from or about Johansson.
Erik Johansson’s work mainly revolves around surrealist photography, however the feeling a lot of his work evokes is serene and dreamlike despite the chaotic imagery. Building off this pattern I created my concept around a desaturated blue which reflects that serenity, and this color will also act as an accent to highlight certain elements against the overall grayscale system. The typography was chosen because Johansson’s aesthetic despite focusing on dreamlike imagery has strong clarity and an overall very clean feeling. The typeface Helvetica is recognized for it’s clarity and it’s neutrality which worked well with the established themes.
